CEO Exits Hit Record High in July

Turnover in the top position surged by 25% in July, as employers at U.S.-based companies announced 124 chief executive officer changes, according to a report released Wednesday by global outplacement and business and executive coaching firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, Inc.

Last month’s total was 32% higher than the 94 CEO exits announced in the same month last year. June marks the sixth time this year that CEO changes were higher than the corresponding month one year earlier.

So far this year, 850 chief executives have left their posts, 17% more than the 725 CEOs who left the top spot at companies in the first seven months of 2018. It is the highest total of CEO exits through July since Challenger began tracking in 2002.
