“The job market—at last—appears to be thawing, albeit slowly. In the past year, the number of private-sector job openings nationwide has risen 13% to 3.6 million, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. But it has been so bad for so long that ‘most people you talk with think we just came out of recession,’ says John Challenger, chief executive of outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas in Chicago.”
